Who Are We?

KSN Literacy Network represents a group of individuals, mothers, fathers, grandmothers and teachers who all believe that Literacy is one of the most important issues in a child's life. It all began when Catherine Beauvais, CEO - a publisher of community newspapers and magazines and a grandmother of six young children, sought out various answers to the dilemma of age inappropriate publications being used in elementary classrooms.  She found a wonderful resource called The Kid Scoop News, created by a former teacher and consultant to newspapers in California; Vicki Whiting.

This wonderful newspaper became a way for Catherine to meet her NIE - Newspapers in Education initiative and began with just 3,000 copies in 2009. These were given out freely in the community and were picked up by several teachers who in turn asked if class sets were available. She said; "Of Course!"  Little did we know that we would be saying that quite a bit!  Now, in 2012, we are distributing over 80,000 copies FREE to classrooms each month, all over Ontario.  We are looking to reach our goal of 250,000 each month, both in schools and in the communities they serve and eventually being able to supply all the provinces with copies for their elementary schools.  With your continued assistance, we will be able to do that.
